How I got into Career Development & Coaching
My own career story of recovering from a miserable, wrong-fit career + the hundreds of professionals I’ve helped find work they love proves that you can discover your unique brilliance, break free of limiting thoughts, and find work that lights you up.
My unique blend
I opened the doors of BE Talent Design 15+ years ago and offer my clients a unique and highly personalized approach to career development that blends three powerful elements:
-
The science of career development tools that I learned in my Master’s degree in Career Development. This element offers you proven career development frameworks, assessments, and insight that give you life-long tools to navigate your career like a pro now and in the future.
-
The art of 1:1 coaching that I developed through my Master Coach certification with Martha Beck Inc, and my Equus Coach certification with The Center For Equus Coaching. This element offers you powerful insights and action planning to break through the old patterns, fears, and limiting beliefs that stop so many people from making their dreams a reality.
-
The magic of strengths from my Gallup CliftonStrengths certification. This element helps you discover and leverage your personal talents and strengths so that you can find work that aligns with your unique superpowers, be happy and reach your true potential.
To maximize the combined power of these three elements I created my 3-step Happy Career Framework that has helped hundreds of people find their dream career.
There’s no better feeling than doing the work you’re meant to do, and in an environment that brings out your best. I’m excited to help you find this – you deserve it – and I know from my own work-hell experience how damaging it can be when we’re in the wrong job and work environment.

My Miserable Job
Early on in my career, with a liberal arts degree in hand and a bit of teaching experience, I sort of fell into a job as an inside sales rep because my best friend from college was doing similar work. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but little did I know this would turn out to be one of the most challenging work experiences of my life.
I got on the wrong path because I was unaware of my unique talents and what I was passionate about, which is helping people in a deep and transformative way to live their best lives. Had I known this, I would have seen that this sales job wasn’t a good fit, to say the least.
The problem was I had no clue how to connect who I was with careers that would light me up. Because I didn’t know any better, I endured this painful experience for way too long and wasted a lot of time. Everything about this job grated against my values and didn’t at all allow me to be my true self or share my gifts and strengths. I ended up feeling drained, miserable, disillusioned, and doubting myself. It was by far one of the most difficult experiences I’ve ever been through – and I’ll never forget how that wrong job wreaked havoc on my self-concept, confidence, health, and personal life.
My growth & discovery
The silver lining here is that what brings us pain, often brings us passion. This painful experience inspired me to head to a career center where I read career books, dove into every assessment they offered to define my strengths, skills, values, and other pieces of the puzzle so I was clear about who I was and what I wanted.
This insight and clarity led me to apply for and complete my master’s degree in Career Development and land my first career counseling role at Santa Clara University. As my husband and I started a family, I left University work and opened my own career counseling practice. Soon, I fell in love with the work of Martha Beck and completed basic and then master level coach training through her incredible coaching program. A few years later, I discovered the missing piece to my career coaching formula – i.e., the power of Strengths - and became a Gallup Certified Strengths coach so I could help my clients uncover and leverage their natural talents and strengths.
My mission
Life is too short to not love our work and where we do it. I’m on a mission to help other women discover the work they were meant to do and help them make it happen.
After helping hundreds of other people transform their careers, I’ve found only one thing separates those who are unhappy in their careers and those who love what they do. And that one thing is they believe it’s possible and intentionally invest time and energy into figuring it out, AND they don’t stop until they do. It’s a choice.
The good news is there’s a simple and proven formula that will catapult you from unhappy professional to a happy and thriving one. I’d love to be your guide through this process and help you discover the work that lights you up and make it happen.
